The hermanos Clark station of the chilean transandine railway. Study of a mountain railway landscape

The Hermanos Clark station was one of the most representative stations of the transandine railway, symbolizing the struggle of man to overcome nature a sample of his ingenuity to build a railroad in height and the determination of its workers to keep it operational in adverse weather conditions. Today, the station is in complete abandonment, but still retains its imposing vestiges that keep enormous patrimonial value. Faced with an eventual risk of disappearing, this research aims to value the station with the registration of its tangible and intangible cultural heritage using as analytical tool the concept of Cultural Landscape, which allows understanding the interaction between nature, technology and man.

La estación Hermanos Clark fue una de las estaciones más representativas del ferrocarril trasandino, simboliza la lucha del hombre por sobreponerse a la naturaleza, una muestra de su ingenio para construir un ferrocarril en altura y el tesón de sus trabajadores para mantenerla operativa ante condiciones climáticas adversas. Hoy la estación se encuentra en completo abandono, pero conserva aún imponentes vestigios que guardan un enorme valor patrimonial. Ante un eventual riesgo de desaparecer, esta investigación busca
poner en valor la estación con el registro de su patrimonio cultural material e inmaterial, utilizando como herramienta analítica el concepto de Paisaje Cultural, que permite entender la interacción entre la naturaleza, la tecnología y el hombre
