Resumen en inglés (Abstract)
The following text contains a summarized record of the most significant historical and aesthetical data collected on the painting Los últimos momentos del General José Miguel Carrera, an early work by Chilean painter Juan Francisco González. The work, which is a copy of an original canvas painted by the famous Uruguayan painter Juan Manuel Blanes, describes a significant event in Chilean history in the early days of the nation´s Independence.
The investigation of historical, stylistic and pictorial reference points of the painting provides details on a series of circumstances regarding its creation which, in turn, enhances the scope of knowledge on the painter and his aesthetic evolution. Thus, the tendency to present the artistic corpus as an isolated component lacking in contextual relations is overcome and this makes it possible to develop an essential cognitive and documentary record for the history of art and restoration. The close links between these two disciplines is addressed as a conclusion, as a way to understand the essential relations between the two and their mutual contributions.
